Subject: School maintenance

An issue I would say that the school struggles with is ignoring maintenance problems such as the
elevator and escalators. I do not mind using the stairs but overall it creates an abundance of people
trying to transition from one area to another. I feel as if this is an issue that can be resolved fairly
easily and that it would help students transition from classes easier.
I want to inform the City College of New York staff and directory about the poor precautions taken
in order to make an easier transportation system for the students. With over 16,000 students
attending CCNY, it is evident that maintenance issues are a major inconvenience for students. For
example, the elevators and the escalators usually go through some maintenance issues from time to
time. This can cause a disruption of movement through the buildings and affect how students get
from one class to another. Even when I take the stairs it is usually tight since there are many other
students who take the stairs due to the fact that the elevators are too inconsistent; do not work
sufficiently and are a huge inconvenience.
A solution I would suggest is finding the right time to take care of the escalators and elevators. The
right time to fix these issues would be during a break while students have no classes and are not
entering the building. Students can also come together and raise money for such expenses if that is
the issue. We can come together as a community and gather funds for fixing these maintenance
issues; whether that be through selling items such as food, or tickets to a play, we can come
together and make improvements to the campus.
This is something I think that the school should improve on in order to make a statement and
improve the experience for the students here at City College. I appreciate all you do for us here at
City College and acknowledge what makes CCNY a great cuny overall.

Sincerely, Mark Thacina
